ISLAMABAD, DECEMBER 31, SPA — French President Nicholas Sarkozy and British Prime Minister Gordon Brown have separately phoned President Pervez Musharraf to convey their appreciation and support to him and lauded the role being played by Pakistan in the war against global terrorism, said an official statement.
Sarkozy expressed his deep shock and grief over the tragic death of former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto, who was killed in a terrorist attack in Rawalpindi on December 27.
He appreciated the several successful actions taken against the terrorists and the support Pakistan has extended to the world in the global fight against terrorism.
Prime Minister Brown also appreciated the role of Musharraf against the extremist and terrorist elements. He offered his country’s assistance that Pakistan may desire in the situation it currently faces.
Brown expressed his support to the President in his efforts for complete transition to democracy and hoped the country would continue to move ahead towards this objective by holding free, fair and transparent elections.
