Car bomb kills at least 16 in Baghdad’s market

Baghdad : At least 16 people were killed and 35 other injured when a car bomb exploded in a popular market in northeastern Baghdad Tuesday evening, a police source told Xinhua.

"A car bomb ripped through a busy market in Shaab district in northeastern Baghdad, killing at least 16 people and wounding 35 others," the source said on condition of anonymity, without giving more details.

Earlier Tuesday, two people were killed and 10 others injured in a car bomb attack targeted police patrol in Kirkuk City, north of Baghdad, local police source said.

Violence continued in Baghdad and other cities despite a security plan staged by the U.S. and Iraqi security forces in the capital since Feb. 14 with the aim of putting the rampant violence under control.
