New Delhi : Five people including four of a family were killed and 12 sustained critical injuries after an under-construction building collapsed in northeast Delhi Wednesday, police said.
According to police, the mishap occurred at around 4.45 p.m. when the third floor of the ill-fated building in Nehru Vihar, close to Karawal Nagar, suddenly collapsed on the other two floors, where at least 15 people were present.
The house was built on 50 square feet area and hosted a garment factory.
Police said the debris was immediately removed with the help of fire brigade officials and all the victims were rushed to the nearby Guru Tegh Bahadur Hospital.
The victims, identified Rajni, 35, owner of the house, her children Sania, 2, Nagma, 4, and Zabbar, 5, and a labourer Samim Ali, 19 – were declared brought dead by hospital doctors, while 12 injured, including three minors, six male and three females, were said to be recuperating.
"We have registered a case of negligence. The rescue work is still underway," Deputy Commissioner of Police Jaspal Singh said.
