New Delhi : Three secretary-level postings were approved by the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet Wednesday.
R.C. Joshi of the Maharashtra cadre of the Indian Administrative Service (IAS) was made member (finance) in the Space Commission and concurrently in the same post in the Earth Commission in the rank and pay of secretary.
Rekha Bhargava of the Madhya Pradesh cadre of the IAS has been made secretary, ministry of parliamentary affairs, and Anil Kumar from the Uttar Pradesh cadre has been appointed secretary of the National Commission for Minorities.
Meanwhile, Duvvuri Subbarao Wednesday assumed charge as finance secretary succeeding Ashok Jha.
Subbarao has been holding the post of secretary, economic Affairs, in the same ministry since May 1, 2007. He belongs to the Andhra Pradesh cadre and has wide experience on issues in public finance.
He was lead economist in the World Bank during 1999-2004 and worked on issues of public finance in Africa and East Asia. Subbarao studied at the Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur and was one of the first IIT products to join the civil services.
