Contacts are now underway for setting a date for the meeting, he told reporters Thursday, predicting that it might take place in the last week of this month.

He added that he would visit Saudi Arabia and Syria on Sunday to exchange views with their senior officials on the latest regional situation and several other Arab issues.

However, the Arab League chief dismissed as "inaccurate" reports quoting EU Foreign Policy Chief Javier Solana as saying that the League would attend a meeting to be held by the Quartet with several regional sides, including Israel.

But, he said, an Arab-Quartet meeting would be hosted by Egypt in the coming couple of weeks "without Israel's participation".

Earlier on Thursday, Moussa met European Peace Envoy Marc Otte on the peace process in the Middle East region. The meeting was aimed to make preparations for the imminent Arab-Quartet meeting and to exchange views on the volatile situation in the region, Moussa said.
