The 23-year-old's attempts to leave London club West Ham United have been hampered by wrangling over his contractual status, with the Premier League, which fined West Ham last season for breaching their rules on third-party involvement, insisting any transfer fee must go to the club and not Tevez's agent Kia Joorabchian.

But with United apparently willing to pay 30 million pounds, the forward has revealed Old Trafford would be his dream destination.

"For me, Manchester United will be a sensational destination and to be a member of Sir Alex Ferguson's squad will be absolutely spectacular," the Argentine was quoted as saying in an interview to the Daily Mail.

"My dream is to be an idol in English football and I can achieve this now."

Tevez still has three years remaining on his West Ham contract, but admits he feels his time at Upton Park is over.

"I am a player who thrives on challenges," he said.

"I went to England to triumph in the Premiership, and with West Ham I have achieved that first stage. Now I'm ready to move on to the next stage."
