New Delhi : Three youths, including a call centre employee, were arrested here for allegedly selling and possessing 150 gm of hashish valued at Rs.200,000 in the international market, police said Friday.
Sleuths of Delhi Police's Narcotics Cell nabbed Shinoj Varghese, an IBM employee, with two other associates Charanjeet alias Lucky and Manoj in a raid in the M-Block Market of Greater Kailash area in south Delhi Thursday evening.
Police said all the accused are in their mid-20s and reside in the capital.
Charanjeet, who had earlier worked for IBM, was the supplier of the narcotics, while Manoj, a freelance photographer, and Varghese had come to purchase it, police said.
"During sustained interrogation, Varghese revealed that he became a drug addict in order to adjust himself in the call centre environment, where drug abuse is comparatively high," Deputy Commissioner of Police A.S. Cheema said.
Cheema added that raids are being conducted to apprehend the main source of drugs and the possible clients in the capital.
In a separate incident, police also arrested an alleged drug peddler for carrying 25 kg of marijuana worth Rs.25,000 in the international market.
"The accused, Putuk, was arrested from east Delhi Thursday afternoon. He revealed in interrogations that he had brought the contraband from Ranchi in Jharkhand to supply in the national capital," Cheema said.
In another case, one person was arrested outside Shyam Lal College in east Delhi Thursday for allegedly carrying 200 gm of heroin valued at Rs.2 million in the international market.
According to police, the identity of the accused was yet to be verified.
