New Delhi : The Chairman of Jammu and Kashmir Salvation Movement Zaffar Akbar Bhat has been put under house arrest in Srinagar on Friday.

He was arrested shortly before he was to lead a rally to protest against human rights violations by security forces in Indian Occupied Kashmir.

Media reports quoting spokesman of the party said a contingent of police raided his house and asked him not to move out of the house.

Syed Ali Shah Geelani was also put under house arrest for three days before he was shifted to Skims Hospital Thursday evening. Geelani had called for general strike on Friday against human rights abuses and he was to stage a sit-in on Thursday at Pratap Park in Srinagar.

The Kashmiri leaders were protesting human rights violations committed by security forces in the occupied state, particularly the recent incident in which some Indian soldiers tried to molest three women in Kangan and Bandipora areas, the spokesman said.

In another development, the Jammu and Kashmir Panthers Party (JKNPP) has demanded dissolution of Indian Occupied Kashmir Assembly as the administrative machinery in the state has completely broken down.

Media reports quoting a statement by JKNPP leader and MLA Harshdev Singh in Jammu said people of the IOK had no confidence in the government.

The statement said the Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad had admitted the inefficiency and corruption in the state machinery. The claims of the government had fallen flat, the statement said. The JKNPP leader said majority of ministers in IOK lacked concern and commitment for ‘public good’.
