Nuclear energy part of Islamic culture: Ayatollah

Tehran : Iranian religious leader Ayatollah Mohammad Emami-Kashani has said that “nuclear energy is a part of Islamic and Iranian culture” and Iran will never abandon its nuclear programme.

Addressing thousands of worshippers during the Friday prayers here, Kashani said: “The Islamic Republic of Iran would never retreat from demanding its absolute nuclear right, because the nuclear issue is a national project.

“How can an Iran ever abandon the technology that is among the pillars of the country’s scientific advancement, prestigious entity, and Islamic civilization?”

Iranian news agency IRNA reported that Kashani emphasised the peaceful nature of Iran’s nuclear activities during the prayer service.

“The enemy’s claim that we are after manufacturing nuclear bombs is a lie coined against us, since we have time and again pointed out that such bombs have no place in our Islamic system. An Islamic system would not do such things, that you normally do,” he said.

Kashani labeled as “truly inappropriate” the West’s claim about Iran’s peaceful nuclear activities.

“The US position is out of question, but we hope to be able to convince Europe that Iran is really not after such adventurism.”
