Delhi hosts gold jewellery exhibition

New Delhi : The connoisseurs of jewellery and fashion are in for a treat in the capital as a four-day exhibition on gold is on display here.

Gold Expressions 2007 collection, an annual gold jewellery fair got underway Saturday in Delhi's sprawling Pragati Maidan to showcase some of the best Italian gold jewellery.

This dazzling collection, brought together by the world Gold Council in association with Vicenza Fair International and D'damas Gold, has been designed by renowned Italian goldsmiths and fashioned to showcase the contemporary emerging trends of new age women.

"Gold Expressions fulfills the increasing need in India for contemporary, versatile pieces of jewellery while giving Indian jewellery designers an insight of the emerging global trends," said Ajay Mitra, managing director, World Gold Council India.

Delhiites were also treated Saturday to a glittering fashion show, graced by Bollywood actress Lara Dutta, which showcased the best of the designs with other renowned models of the Indian fashion industry.

"India has always been one of the largest consumers of gold in the world and Italy is renowned for its designs in gold jewellery. Vicenza Fair plays the role of promoting the Italian goldsmith industry, representing gold jewellery manufacturers, machinery manufacturers and other suppliers of the industry," said Andrea Turcato, chief of Vicenza Fair.

The Gold Expressions 2007 collection will be on till July 10.
