New Delhi : External Affairs Minister Pranab Mukherjee Saturday emphasised the need for increased international cooperation to achieve the goal of "zero tolerance" for terrorism.

"Governments across the world must come together if we are to achieve a level of zero tolerance for terrorism," Mukherjee said here, even as investigations stretching from Britain to Australia continued into the failed car bombings in Britain last week.

India has already launched an investigation into the background of the two brothers from Bangalore arrested in Britain, Sabeel and Kafeel Ahmed, as well as their cousin under arrest in Australia, Mohammed Haneef.

Of the eight individuals arrested for the failed car bomb attacks, three are Indian nationals.

Mukherjee's comments also assume significance after Prime Minister Manmohan Singh said Friday that he had offered help in the probe into the British car bomb plot but urged people not to jump to conclusions over the nationalities of the suspects.

"We offered them all possible help in dealing with this, but I think labelling Indians as terrorists, Pakistanis as terrorists… I think, these labels are best avoided," Singh said, referring to his telephonic conversation with British Prime Minister Gordon Brown Wednesday.
