Islamabad : Law enforcement are on high alert across Pakistan in the wake of the army operation to flush out holed up militants in Lal Masjid here, Federal Interior Minister Aftab Ahmed Sherpao said Tuesday.
Sherpao told a private television channel that all-out efforts were being made to bring the situation under control, adding the government was committed to solving the Lal Masjid standoff, Online news agency reported.
He said it was still unclear how many foreign militants were killed in the army mop up and the actual position would be clear only after the operation ended. At least 50 people have been killed in the ongoing operation.
Security has been intensified in Islamabad, Peshawar, Quetta, Lahore, Karachi and other parts of the country, Online said.
Additional Police Force, Rangers and heavy contingent of army have been deployed at all entry and exit points and vehicles are being thoroughly checked to prevent any untoward incident.
