Brussels : The European Union suggested Tuesday that talks were better means of resolving the Red Mosque issue in Islamabad than use of force.
"We are following the events around the Red Mosque very closely and of course we deplore all the loss of life," Christiane Hohmann, European Commission spokesperson for external relations, told reporters.
"We do still hope that there is a possibility to solve this problem peacefully," she was quoted by Inepnext as saying.
When a journalist noted that the Pakistan army had already stormed the mosque ten hours ago resulting in the killing of 50 militants and a number of Pakistani soldiers Hohmann replied," this is exactly our reaction to the current situation."
"We are aware. There have been heavy losses of human lives in this military action but we still think dialogue and negotiations are better way of solving the problems."
