K.D. Tripathi, 67, was found with strangulation marks on his throat at his Sainik Farm home in south Delhi. He was a retired engineer and was staying alone at his S-531 residence as his wife and a daughter were in the United States.

His other daughter lives in Britain and his son resides in Australia.

According to police, it seems that he had a scuffle with his killers before being murdered.

Police said the house was ransacked and initial investigations suggest that the assailants had made a friendly entry into the house.

"We received a call at around 3.15 p.m. saying that he was found dead in his residence. The forensic and crime investigation teams are collecting evidence from the scene," a senior police official said.

"We have sent the body for post-mortem and have also informed his relatives," he added.
