New Delhi : The Board of Approvals (BoA) in the commerce ministry will meet Thursday to consider 41 special economic zones (SEZs), including Mukesh Ambani's multi-product SEZ in Navi Mumbai.
Ambani's SEZ has been deferred twice earlier due to issues relating to the displacement and rights of villagers near the SEZ.
The BoA, headed by of commerce secretary G.K. Pillai, is meeting a week after the Parliamentary Committee suggested that no more SEZs would be cleared until the government came up with a proper plan for acquiring land for them.
Other important SEZ proposals that would come up for consideration Thursday include those by Parsvnath, Unitech, Skil Infrastructure, Andhra Pradesh Industrial Infrastructure Corporation Ltd and Chhindwara Plus Developers Ltd.
The BoA has so far granted formal approval to 339 SEZs, of which 126 have been notified. Current employment that has taken place in the new SEZs are 33,000 and by the end of this year additional employment in the new SEZs is expected to cross 100,000.
