“This year has seen an unprecedented number of entries which speaks highly of India’s booming economy,” tournament chairman Jaidip Chitlangia said.

“Defending champions Madhya Bharat Papers Ltd will be hard pressed to stave off challenge from the Williamson Magor Group, who were winners nine consecutive times till they were beaten last year,” he said.

“Stiff competition can also be expected from former champions like Tata Steel, McLeod and Co, Tata Tea, J Thomas & Company Ltd,” Chitlangia said.

New entrants to be watched out this year are Manpasand Manpower Pvt Ltd, Moran Tea Co (India) Ltd, Usha Martin Limited and Rediffusion Dyr Pvt Ltd.

Former national champions Laxman Singh, Alan Singh and Vandana Agarwal are regular participants in the event. Participants from areas like Bhubaneshwar, Jamshedpur, Jamalpur and Digboi are truly giving this event an eastern flavour.

The scoring format for the tournament will be a scratch stroke-play competition with players in different handicap categories being permitted to discard their poorest holes. Each team can enter a maximum four players, but not less than three, and the best of three strokes will count towards the team aggregate.
