Baghdad : US-led coalition forces said in a statement Friday that they had captured a high-ranking “special groups cell leader” in a pre-dawn raid in Baghdad.
The cell leader, whose name was not disclosed, is suspected of coordinating logistical support from Iran, and is also believed to have directed attacks against multinational forces in the past.
According to the statement, the arrested suspect, formerly an Iraqi police officer, is believed to have close ties with the Iranian Revolutionary Guards known as the Quds Force.
At least seven militants and six Iraqi policemen were killed in the pre-dawn raid.
