Dalmiya likely to stay away from CAB elections

Kolkata : With the Jagmohan Dalmiya factor virtually out of the equation, incumbent Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) president Prasun Mukherjee Thursday presented his panel for the forthcoming elections.

Interacting with the media on the occasion, Mukherjee said, "I want a panel of my choice. However, everyone could not be accommodated and that is what happens when you are going to give a panel.

"We met last night. Many names were discussed but obviously all cannot be accommodated. If you have faith in me you have to go by my choice," he said.

With the verdict in Dalmiya's case against the Indian board still awaited, it seems the former International Cricket Council (ICC) president has given up hopes of wresting power in the state association.

The deadline for filing nominations is Friday 4 p.m. and the voting, if required, would take place on July 28.

Besides, Bhishma of the maidan and Dalmiya's mentor, Biswanath Dey has suggested that the former ICC president should not contest the election as his case had still not been decided by the Calcutta High Court.

While a panel from the Dalmiya lobby will indeed be a huge surprise, Dey has made it clear that he is neutral. "But if you ask me how is Prasun Mukherjee as CAB president, I will say he is a hard worker and has vision," he added.
