In a strongly-worded statement Thursday, the movement said it would not allow anybody to “rebel against the wishes of the Palestinian people and overlook the results of the regular elections that took place in West Bank and Gaza, which took place last year.”

Hamas expressed support for the Cairo and Mecca agreements with Fatah and said it was ridiculous to pretend they were suspended.

Abbas has urged legislators to issue condemnations against Hamas in the aftermath of the developments in Gaza, which paved the way for Hamas to take over the strip.

Hamas called for the reconstruction of the Palestinian Liberation Organisation the way it was originally conceived and stressed that “Hamas will not beg for an agreement with Fatah.”

It added that its stated wish was to revive the internal dialogue with Fatah.

Hamas rejected all decrees issued by Fatah after Hamas imposed its rule on the Gaza Strip and said the clock would not go back.
