According to the OPEC secretariat in Vienna, the price for one barrel of OPEC-produced oil rose for the first time above $73 Thursday since the oil cartel's foundation in 1960.

Thursday's price is 40 cents higher than the previous high of $72.83 Monday, and 55 cents over the record high of $72.68 on Aug 8 last year.

Vienna-based analysts believe production problems in Angola and a fire in a plant in Saudi Arabia are responsible for the latest price hike.
