London : The Italian Health Ministry has said that freeing the neck of a tight fitting tie immediately cools the body and helps stop global warming.
Global warming is the gradual warming of the Earth's atmosphere reportedly caused by the burning of fossil fuels and industrial pollutants.
In an unconventional campaign to combat climate change, the Italian Health Ministry said that freeing the neck of a tight-fitting tie immediately cools the body temperature by 2°C to 3°C.
And cooling workers would allow offices to turn down the air conditioning on hot summer days, thereby saving energy and reducing greenhouse-gas emissions, reported the online edition of New Scientist.
Italy is one of the European Union's worst performers on the pollution front and is expected to exceed its greenhouse gas emission targets.
The tie campaign comes on the heals of Cool Biz, an effort by the Environment Ministry of Japan, that began a couple years back to get men to shed their suit coats in the summer.
A later proposed Warm Biz campaign, involving wearing warmer clothes in winter to save on heating costs, never gained popularity, but Cool Biz was a hit.
Japan claimed that loosening of men's ties had kept 460,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide from entering the atmosphere.
