New Delhi : Three people travelling in an auto rickshaw were crushed to death when a speeding truck hit their vehicle from behind in south Delhi Friday.
According to police, the mishap occurred at around 2.00 a.m. when the auto got sandwiched between two trucks in New Friends Colony area of south Delhi.
The truck moving ahead of the auto screeched to a sudden halt and the auto banged onto it. Before the auto occupants could realise what had happened, the other truck rammed their vehicle from behind, leaving all three dead.
The dead – Lal Babu, 35, Umesh Paswan, 26, and Sanjay Pandey, 40, – were from Bihar.
Paswan was driving the vehicle, while Sanjay and Lal Babu were sitting in the passenger seat.
"We have registered a case and a hunt is on for the absconding driver," a police official said.
In a separate incident, a state-run Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) bus injured three people, including a boy, in Bwana area of northwest Delhi.
The speeding bus hit the three – Anshu, 7, his mother Seema, 38, and their 20-year-old relative, Sandeep – who were travelling on a motorcycle.
The injured were taken to a nearby hospital where Anshu was reported to be in a serious condition.
"We have arrested the driver of the bus," a police official said.
