New Delhi : A mild earthquake measuring 4.9 on the Richter scale jolted parts of northern India before dawn Monday.
According to officials, the epicentre of the quake at around 4.30 a.m. was estimated to be at Uttarkashi in Uttarakhand.
But the tremors were also felt in New Delhi, Meerut and Haridwar. Many in the national capital were jolted out of their beds.
The last major quake in Uttarkashi region in October 1991 devastated thousands of homes and killed nearly 800 people.
