Three major unions of civil servants are on strike, pressurising the government to fulfill their demands. They had staged 'pen-down' on Monday.

The agitation by the employees of the additional post offices and VDC secretaries also continue, demanding increase in facilities and security.

VDC secretaries have been organising sit-in protest at the ministry of local development since last three days. The employees in the district development committees have also expressed solidarity to the agitation of the VDC secretaries.

The government employees and the VDC secretaries came to the street after the murder of a VDC secretary recently in Terai by an armed rebellion group who warned the people of hill-origin to leave Terai in a week's time.

Despite repeated government calls, the rebel groups have not come to the negotiating table but have continued murders, abduction and torture of the villagers in the southern belt. –
