The striker hit an unstoppable shot from 30 yards after 15 minutes, which swerved past Glenn Morris in goal, reports the Premier League website.

Adam Boyd then fired narrowly wide for the League One club, before scoring a stunning equaliser after 20 minutes.

The 25-year-old, a new signing from Luton, sent a 25-yard volley dipping over goalkeeper Robert Green to mark his debut for the east London club in style.

Darren Bent scored for Tottenham Hotspur as the Premier League side edged to a 2-1 win against Orlando Pirates in Cape Town, South Africa.

The 16.5-million pound signing, partnering Jermain Defoe for the first time, put Spurs ahead in the first half before Wayne Routledge extended the lead after 83 minutes.

However, with five minutes left a three-times taken penalty, which was eventually converted by Joseph Kamwendo, meant the White Hart Lane club had to endure a nervous finish in the second game of the Vodacom Challenge at Newlands Stadium.

Cerny saved the first spot kick from Excellent Walaza down to his left and the retaken one by the same player down to his right before Kamwendo slotted home, but Spurs held on.

A largely second-string Middlesbrough side won 2-0 against local rivals Darlington, with two goals from Tom Craddock.

First-teamers Stewart Downing, Emanuel Pogatetz and Julio Arca all played an hour for Boro.
