Junior paddlers start Asian meet on winning note

New Delhi : The Indian boys' team won all its three matches on the opening day of the 13th Asian Junior Table Tennis Championships at Hoengseong, South Korea, Wednesday, according to information reaching here.

Playing in Group A of the tournament's first stage the junior paddlers beat Pakistan 3-0, defeated Iran 3-1 and then blanked Qatar 3-0. India will face Vietnam and Japan Thursday for a place in the quarterfinals, said a Table Tennis Federation of India statement.

The junior girls also made an impressive start in Group B first stage with victories over Iran (3-0) and Taiwan (3-1) but lost to Singapore (0-3). They are still in the running for a quarterfinal berth in the event.

The cadet boys, playing in the first stage Group-A, downed Qatar 3-1 and face Korea 'B' Thursday.

India crushed Macao 3-0 in Group A of the cadet girls' first stage. They run into Korea 'B' and Thailand Thursday.
