Srinagar : Four people including two separatist guerrillas, a policeman and a student were killed in an overnight gunfight at Nadihal village, about 70 km from here in north Kashmir's Baramulla district.
According to the police, Tuesday night troops of Rashtriya Rifles and special operations group (SOG) of police – acting on a specific tip off – surrounded a house in the village where militants were believed to be hiding.
"The militants opened fire on the security forces resulting in the death of a special police officer and serious injury to another," a senior police officer said. The injured policeman was taken to hospital for treatment.
A standard 10 student, Tariq Ahmad Wani, was killed in the crossfire, the police officer added.
He said the guerrillas holed up inside the house were engaged in a gunfight that ended Wednesday morning after the militants were killed.
