New Delhi : H.S. Bhogal recorded the highest break of four canons on way to beating S.S. Anand and moving into the second round of the first one-cushion national carombole championship here Thursday.
Bhogal, who won 40-29, also twice had breaks of three canons at the Billiardco Hall.
In the other matches, Sumit Talwar defeated Sunil Aggarwal 34-29 and Bhupender Berry, also president of the Delhi Billiards and Snooker Association, beat Harpreet Singh 32-17.
The winner of the title here will represent India at the second Asian Indoor Games in Macau from Oct 27 to Nov 3.
Though a three-cushion national carombole championship was played in 2001 as a selection tournament for the 2002 Busan Asian Games, the game never picked up. Hence, it took this long to organise the first national tournament in this format.
