Bangalore : Karnataka Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy has said that more than one third of the daily water supplied to Bangalore is wasted or pilfered.
Responding to criticism from opposition members on water shortage in many areas of the IT hub, Kumaraswamy recently told the state assembly that 300 million litres of water are wasted in the city every day.
A huge quantity of water, around 37 percent of the daily supply "goes waste" due to leakage in pipes and is pilfered from illegal taps in many places, the chief minister said.
"If we take action against those pilfering water, people's representatives themselves request us to release them," Kumaraswamy said.
