Talking to a private TV channel, he said the President can, therefore contest the election in his present capacity.

Niazi said the ruling coalition is committed to follow the constitutional provisions in all the matters adding if the opposition has any reservations, they can approach the courts.

They are making hue and cry without going through the constitutional provisions, he said.

To a question Niazi said that in his personal view the prevalent conditions in the country do not allow the holding of general elections on scheduled time.

Elaborating, he said, the prevalent law and order situation in tribal areas, and some parts of Balochistan and NWFP and flood conditions in various parts of the country are the matters to which all the political parties including the ruling coalition should pay serious attention before the announcement of elections schedule.

The minister, however said that it is his personal view and he is not representing his party or the government in this regard.

Responding yet to another question Niazi said that he will welcome if an understanding takes place between the ruling coalition and Pakistan Peoples Party Parliamentarians in the national interest.
