At least 20 workers were hospitalised after the fire that broke out Monday evening from the storeroom of the factory located at Dhaka Export Processing Zone in Savar, New Age newspaper said.

About 150 workers present in the factory broke open the doors and windows to escape.

Over 200 knitting and 100 weaving machines of the Jung Sign Textiles Limited were destroyed in the inferno, the newspaper said.

Textiles, readymade garments and knitwear are Bangladesh's premier exports, earning nearly a half of the annual foreign exchange.
