Hamirpur(Himachal Pradesh) : Himachal Pradesh's Hamirpur constituency is all set for an important Lok Sabha by-poll Saturday that will mainly be contested by the Congress and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
While the BJP has fielded former chief minister Prem Kumar Dhumal, who is also leader of opposition in the state assembly, the Congress has put up state Forest Minister Ram Lal Thakur.
Dhumal is contesting for the fifth time, having won it twice. Thakur too has made three attempts but without any luck.
The Hamirpur seat had fallen vacant following the expulsion of former BJP MP Suresh Chandel in the wake of the cash for query scam, where MPs were accused of accepting cash to ask questions in parliament.
The Hamirpur by-poll assumes significance in the light of state assembly elections next year.
