Port-of-Spain (Trinidad) : Mittal Steel is "an inspiration to Indian entrepreneurship" because it has put the Indian manufacturing capability on the world map, says Minister of Overseas Indian Affairs Vayalar Ravi.

The minister made the point when he toured Mittal Steel at Point Lisas in Trinidad Thursday.

Ravi said the Mittal company demonstrated that people from "the Indian sub-continent could settle in any part of the world and create their own success story".

Kalyan Ghosti, the Mittal Steel general manager, said the company employed 750 people.

Meanwhile, workers returned to work at Mittal Steel after a two-day stoppage. Workers took the company to the Industrial Court over alleged lack of concerns for the workers' occupational safety and health.

"We are constantly having serious problems… the company's management is still not operating under the terms and conditions of the Act," a union leader said.
