Police catch corrupt officials on camera, 20 suspended

Gurgaon : At least 20 Gurgaon police personnel were suspended after a sting operation carried out by their seniors caught them red-handed extorting money.

"We have suspended 20 policemen after a sting operation carried out by senior officers," Senior Superintendent of Police Hanif Qureshi told IANS.

Qureshi said the suspended officials include two assistant sub-inspectors, three head constables and 15 constables who were posted in the Sector 10 police station and the police control room.

The sting operation was carried out two days ago by Deputy Superintendent of Police (Crime Branch) Rajesh Kalra on the complaint of some junk buyers based in Sector 37 industrial area.

They complained that these policemen regularly extorted money from them by threatening to book them on false charges.

"Following the repeated harassment by the policemen, our officer Kalra carried out the sting operation and the corrupt policemen were caught red-handed on camera," Qureshi said.

He added: "We have initiated a departmental inquiry against them and their hearing will take place on day to day basis."
