BJP-backed independent leads in Jharkhand by-poll

Ranchi : In what could be a blow to Jharkhand's ruling United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government, Bharatiya Janata Party's (BJP) backed independent candidate Indersingh Namdhari was Tuesday leading in the Daltonganj assembly constituency.

Namdhari, former Janata Dal-United (JD-U) president and assembly speaker, is leading by 10,000 votes, ahead of Anil Kumar Chaurasia of the All Jharkhand Students Union.

Namdhari, the MLA from Daltonganj, had resigned from the assembly in March this year after he fell out with the state leadership of JD-U.

The ruling Congress was trailing at number three and the JD-U candidate at four in the counting for the elections held Saturday.
