Hamirpur (Himachal Pradesh) : The Bharatya Janata Party (BJP) Tuesday took an early lead of about 30,000 votes over the Congress in the Hamirpur Lok Sabha by-election.
The BJP had fielded former chief minister Prem Kumar Dhumal while the Congress candidate was Ram Lal Thakur.
Polling took place Saturday in Hamirpur after Suresh Chandel of BJP was thrown out of parliament with 10 others after being charged with taking money to raise questions in the house.
The Hamirpur seat is spread over Hamirpur, Una and Bilaspur districts, in the lower hills of Himachal Pradesh.
