Patna : A dead school teacher in Bihar has been teaching students and regularly getting her salary. She has also been signing the school attendance register.
It came to light after the education department conducted an enquiry following complaints that a dead woman schoolteacher's salary was withdrawn from the school accounts.
According to the education department officials, Leela Kumari, a teacher at a government middle school in Nalanda district, about 100 km from here, died seven years ago.
"An application by her relatives in this connection was available with the department" officials said.
However, school records show that she has been teaching students and getting her salary. During the visit of a team of education department officials to the school last month, a teacher in the school claimed that she was Leela Kumari.
The Nalanda district education officer has requested the Finger Print Bureau to inquire into this case. "We have sent the finger prints of the dead Leela Kumari and the finger prints of the school teacher who claimed she is Leela Kumari to the bureau for inquiry," Shahjanand Kumar, education officer said.
"This case appears to be very complicated. Only a scientific inquiry will bring out the truth," added Kumar.
