London : Midfielder Steven Gerrard and defender Jamie Carragher have extended their contract with Liverpool for four more seasons till 2011.
"I'm really pleased," said Gerrard after signing the contract Monday. "The negotiations have gone really smoothly. Hopefully over the next four years we can deliver a lot more trophies."
The announcement came at the beginning of a summer that is expected to see major changes to the Liverpool squad, as manager Rafa Benitez spends the extensive transfer budget allotted him by the club's new owners Tom Hicks and George Gillett.
"Obviously we are both local lads and I've always said I wanted to stay here for the rest of my career," said Carragher.
"Hopefully I've got one more contract left in me that will take me to the end of my career."
