New Delhi : The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has sent a two-member team to Argentina to assist law officers in that country during arguments over the trial to extradite Italian businessman Ottavio Quattrocchi to India for his alleged role in the Bofors gun payoff case.

The CBI team of Director (Prosecution) S.K. Sharma and Superintendent of Police Keshav Mishra has already briefed Argentina's Attorney General after reaching the country, said CBI officials Tuesday.

The First Court of El Dorado in the province of Misiones, about 1,500 km from the Argentinean capital Buenos Aires, will begin hearing India's plea for the extradition of Quattrocchi on June 7.

The Italian businessman was arrested in February in the Argentinean tourist hotspot of Iguazu on the basis of an Interpol Red Corner Notice (RCN) issued in 1997 against him.
