AIFF to sign MoU with Brazil football body

New Delhi : The All India Football Federation (AIFF) will sign a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with a Brazilian football body later this week for development of the sport in the country.

The decision to sign the MoU was taken after Fabio Andre Koff, president of Clube Dos13 (an organisation of the professional clubs of Brazil) met AIFF president Priya Ranjan Dasmunsi Monday and initial steps of cooperation between the two sides were discussed.

The areas of collaboration will include exposure tours to Brazil by the national youth teams and technical experts involved with various clubs and youth teams in India.

The possibility of an understanding, which will enable matches of the Brazil League to be telecast live in India, was also discussed.

It was Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, who, bowing to insistent pressure from Dasmunsi, asked Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva about the necessity of coaching Indian players during his visit in that country in September 2006.

During the tour both the countries signed nine agreements and MoUs, including one for the football superpowers to train Indian players and coaches.
