Jwala Prasad was arrested with his father Phool Singh and brother Inderpal from their residence in New Usmanpur in northeast Delhi after his 30-year-old wife Malti lodged a complaint of dowry harassment to the police.

Malti, a teacher in a government school, alleged that her husband and in-laws used to physically harass her for dowry.

"They always asked me to bring money from my parents and when I refused to do so, they used to beat me with sticks," she told the police.

Malti got married to Prasad two years ago. The couple didn't have any child, police said.

"We have arrested the accused and investigations are on," Deputy Commissioner of Police Jaspal Singh said.
