New Delhi : Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati, currently in the national capital, remained indoors all of Sunday as she was preoccupied with "personal engagements", said officials of her Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) government.
"She has no scheduled meeting or official event today," said a senior BSP official refusing to say what brought the chief minister here from Lucknow on Saturday night.
BSP sources also claimed that, "there are no political meetings planned for Sunday."
Mayawati's presence in the national capital assumed significance in the context of reports from Lucknow that she was going to intimate to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh her party's decision regarding the presidential elections, slated to be held in July.
"It is still early for us to open our cards. Let things crystallise a little more," said a minister in her government.
The BSP national executive and party MLAs and MPs have already requested Mayawati to decide on the presidential candidature and it is now up to her to negotiate with the ruling United Progressive Alliance (UPA).
According to UPA sources, discussions on the issue may start only next week as UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi is currently in a visit to the Netherlands.
