Srinagar : Three soldiers and three Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) militants were killed in a fierce gun battle in Jammu and Kashmir's Kupwara district Tuesday.
Police said troops of 18 Rashtriya Rifles, on specific information, surrounded an area in village Chake Changri, in the Lolab valley, of north Kashmir's Kupwara district, 110 km from here Tuesday.
"As the troops zeroed in on the target, the holed up militants opened fire resulting in the spot death of three troopers. Two of them have been identified as rifleman Ram Kumar and rifleman Abdul Hameed Charra," a police spokesman said.
"In the sustained gunfight which continued till late evening, three militants of Lashkar-e-Toiba outfit were killed."
He identified one of the slain guerrillas as Abu Musa, the financial chief of LeT.
