Chandigarh : Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal Wednesday asked Britain to send English teachers to schools in the state's rural areas to help teachers and students sharpen their skills in English.
Badal suggested to British High Commissioner to India Michael Arthur that the British teachers could hold summer camps in the schools. Arthur had called on the chief minister at his official residence in the afternoon.
Punjab has a high number of immigrants to western countries, especially in Britain.
Arthur assured Badal that he would ask the British Council to look into the matter.
The chief minister asked Arthur to impress upon the British government the need to alleviate fears of Indians, especially Punjabi professionals settled in the United Kingdom, due to stringent new immigration and settlement rules.
