Brasilia : The International Labour Organisation in its latest report has revealed that there are nearly 3 million child labourers in Brazil.
The new figure incorporates more than 400,000 children in the remote Amazon region, Spanish news agency EFE reported Wednesday.
The Latin American giant has a population of roughly 187 million.
About 1,000 children protested Tuesday against the economic exploitation of children during an event held in Brasilia.
Tatiana Estrela, a social worker at the Marist Solidarity Institute, one of the organisations supporting the, said "it's very important that the children have an idea of the dangers associated the curse of child labour."
Estrela said some of the children who participated in Tuesday's protests were part of a pilot project to prevent child and adolescent labour in the impoverished portions of Brasilia.
