The maximum temperature Wednesday was 39.8 degree Celsius and the minimum 28.5 degrees. This was a climbdown from the 44.9 degrees, the highest this season recorded last week.

"There is a possibility of thundershower in some parts of the city later in the night or early Thursday morning which will ensure that the temperature will hover around 39 degrees. The skies will remain partly cloudy as well," said an official of the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD).

"The past two days have been quite a breather for us. Yesterday the weather was lovely, but we are not disappointed today either. Let's just hope that rains come soon," said Swina Ganguly, a student.

The maximum humidity was 79 percent and the minimum 48 percent.
