Indian strike illegal: Delhi High Court

New Delhi : The Delhi High Court late Wednesday termed the strike by a section of employees of national domestic carrier Indian as illegal and directed them to go back to work Thursday morning.

The court's directive came after the central government approached it in the evening and sought its direction to declare the strike as illegal under the Essential Services Act.

Around 12,000 employees of Indian airlines went on an indefinite nationwide strike late Tuesday, demanding pay hikes and payment of arrears, affecting several flights.

Justice J.P. Singh, who passed the order, adjourned the matter till June 22 for the further direction.

The court also directed the employees to stage their demonstrations beyond 200 meters from premises of the airports across the country and not to obstruct the passengers' passage.
