Assailants who came on motor-cycle Wednesday night threw a bomb at the Bishalnagar house of Shrish Shumsher Jung Bahadur Rana, a former journalist who was made information and communications minister during the royal reign and spearheaded a drive to muzzle Nepal's media.

No one was injured in the explosion, Nepal's official media said Thursday.

Rana, a hardliner who supported the king's decision to put out the Maoist insurgency by force, was questioned by a commission set up after the fall of the royal regime to probe the culpability of royalist ministers and bureaucrats.

No group has claimed responsibility for the attack so far.

The incident comes at a time when the international community has been expressing concern at the deteriorating security situation in Nepal, especially with a crucial election slated for mid-November.
