Pre-monsoon showers in Himachal

Shimla : Pre-monsoon showers lashed Himachal Pradesh Thursday bringing down the mercury by several degrees across the hill state.

"These are the first pre-monsoon showers in the state," said R.K. Lakhanpal of the met office here.

More rain has been forecast in the next couple of days.

Shimla town recorded 51.2 mm of rainfall. The maximum temperature was 24.5 degree Celsius while the minimum dropped to 15.3 degrees.

The rain brought relief to the people who had been experiencing an unusually warm spell along with high humidity since early last week with the mercury rising to 31.5 degree over the weekend, the highest in 12 years.
