President, PM condole Ramachandra Gandhi’s death

New Delhi : President A.P.J. Abdul Kalam and Prime Minister Manmohan Singh Thursday condoled the demise of eminent philosopher Ramachandra Gandhi.

In a condolence message to the late professor's brothers Gopalkrishna Gandhi, governor of West Bengal, and Rajmohan Gandhi, the president has said that Ramachandra Gandhi was a well-known personality, philosopher, visionary, writer and an outstanding scholar.

In his condolence message to his family, the prime minister said: "I was deeply saddened to learn of the passing away of Professor Ramachandra Gandhi. He was a distinguished academic and a learned scholar.

"He was also a truly devoted teacher who was held in high regard and with great affection by his students. As a symbol of simple living and high thinking, he came to epitomize the message of his grandfather, the father of our nation."

Ramahchandra Gandhi died here Wednesday. He was 70.
